California - High-Speed Rail
from All Things Considered, Tuesday, June 4, 2002
NPR's Andy Bowers reports that California has taken the first step toward building an alternative to air travel: high-speed rail. The first leg of the California plan would link San Francisco and Los Angeles with a train that could make the 400-mile trip in about two and a half hours. The state Senate has passed a bill that would provide $9 billion in bond money for the project. Opponents call the plan a boondoggle. (4:00)
