Gk En UI1/Br 2. Klausur 12.I Jan 13th, 2003 (2th+3rd periods) Theme: Great Britain - Media Focus Text A: The Sun, 06 JAN 1998) Text B: The Sun, 31 OCT 2001) Cartoon: The Sun, 7 APR 1987 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Text A: Germans told: Get outta herr Germans who arrive in Majorca drunk will be turned round and put on the next plane home. Leaflets explaining the crackdown are being handed to tourists on all German flights to the holiday isle. The measure does not apply to other foreigners. It reflects a growing tide of local resentment against an invasion by wealthy Germans. About a fifth of Majorca's population is already German - and millions more descend on the Spanish island every spring and summer.
Text B: OK to call the Krauts 'Hun' A racism complaint over a contest which referred to Germans as "Huns" has been thrown out by advertising watchdogs. The ruling comes just days after the Advertising Standards Authority gave the all-clear to the term "Krauts." Internet firm LastMinute.com had sent out emails advertising a "Hun fun pun" contest after England's soccer team beat Germany 5-1. Watchdogs ruled the term - described by the Oxford English Dictionary as derogatory - was not used offensively. The German Embassy in London refused to comment yesterday.
